Our tips for how to style your shelves

Who knew that styling shelves could be so overwhelming?

Perhaps the large amount of space is daunting or maybe it’s difficult to decide how to best display your personal mementos.

We follow a formula when styling shelves for clients. Here are our go-to tips:

Gather everything you have to style the shelves

From books to picture frames and decorative accessories you can steal from other rooms. It’s always best to start off with a clear view of all of your options.

Identify busy shelves and light shelves

We like to alternate between busier shelves and lighter, emptier shelves.

Put books and large items on the shelves that will be busier and don’t use anything that you want to stand out, like statement accessories or special, personal items.

When your busier shelves are full, then, put statement pieces on the remaining shelves.

Fill in any gaps

The last thing you’ll do is fill in any gaps with the items you have left over or florals and greenery. If you’re still seeing gaps, this is when you’d go shopping for new accessories to use on your styles shelves!
